I don't even know what to say about this song. This, along with Edge, is just classic Stevie to me. Most everyone is familiar with it, even the most casual fan. The lyrics - well, yes, they can be confusing at times (I'm not going to even start on her explanations - "well, you know, like standing in a welfare line...") But I love it anyway.
Somehow, despite all the synthesizers, this sounds like a rock song to me, not a dance tune. I mean, you can dance to it & everything, but it's not really a "dance" song. KnowwhatI'msayin? Live - spectacular. I love the energy she gets when she's singing. The drum intro can get pretty tired, but this tour's percussion w/ Taku & Jimmy was really incredible. Mac or solo, I really don't care, it's all good - LIB is exceptionally great. But I have yet to hear a live version that disappointed me. Sure, some are better than others, but I've never thought any live version I've heard was truly terrible. I do, however, think she does it better now than in the past. Sounded way too much like the studio version on the 83 tour - it's way looser now, more hard rockin'. The video? In all it's 80's cheesy glory? I adore it, of course. Grew up with it when we first got MTV. Civil War version - sure, I'll take that one too. ![]() |

always my favorite... it was the very first Stevie song i ever heard, when i was like 4... i loved it then and i love it now... there is no other Stevie or FM song with the same kind of driving excitement in my opinion... and when it is played live, nothing beats it... it was and always will be Stevie's "moment to shine" song

Um.... *points to sig*
![]() Love it, of course! Definitely one of Stevie's bigger-known songs, and one of the best. I still remember the first time I heard it, just thinking "Wow! What a great song!" And that video too, who could forget Stevie on the conveyour belt, chiffon billowing in the wind? |

Big, big love for Stand Back. It really was the song that got me into Stevie and the Mac for that matter. It just flowed so right out of FM radio. Everytime.
I also love both videos, for different reasons, certainly the unreleased civil war version for creativity and the released version for sheer playfullness and silliness. Something about that treadmill. I have never been the same on a treadmill since seeing this video. I wish the treads at the gym would go the other direction into a bright light with wind machines. |

Several Billion kicks.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it. However - ( Isn't there always a "however?" )Stevie, I feel sure, would give huge credit to Prince, who wrote the keyboard part - which, let's face it, is 80% of the song. But that's all right . . . isn't it??? And - I hear that Stevie did NINETEEN continuous spins, full-throttle, during "Stand Back" in the second Las Vegas show. Which leads me to my point - Stevie rocks the zero-to-sixty in under 2.9 - GO STEVIEEE! YAAAAAYYYYY! ![]() |

I gave it 5 KICKS, just because it is classic Stevie.Would you believe that is it one of my least favorites off WH? Up until I started collecting bootlegs and hearing it live, it was a favorite. Now, the album cut fails to make the cut due to the awesome live versions that are out there. My favorite version forever and always will be LIB. Not fully do to the fact that I was there and you can hear a scream of mine in the song, but do to the fact that it is a flawless vocal....love the screams, the "takkkke" is phenonmenal, and the energy is out of this world. This summer's SB was rocking, too. I didn't like how the "takkkkke" became "taaa taaa ttaaa taaake" and dropped in key. But what can ya do?! Second place goes to Storytellers for the "TIIIME of your life!"

I fell in love, when I was only 8. I am still deeply in love.
And I like the album version. I like them both. The album version has a sexy something that the live one's don't have, and the live ones have a rockingness the studio one doesn't have.

I really really love seeing this song done live. It is always one of my favorites at the concerts. It's so fun and high energy. BUT....I always skip it on the album. Even on bootlegs. I really only like it if I am there. So I gave it 3.

I really love this song. Oddly enough, it's not one of my very favorites, and when I make CDs of my favorite Stevie songs, it's not included, but it is still loved.
