In your eyes, Whose better and why?
What is each band's legacy? What do you think the public's opinion is? |

The Mac, definitely.
The Eagles are quite pompous and I've heard that they don't really give a good show--don't really get into it, don't talk with the audience, etc. I hear they are in it all for the money (not that MICK isn't, haha). I think the Mac has a different mystique than the Eagles--with the love affairs in between members of the band, the dynamics with both men and women musicians, etc. The Eagles are a bunch of dudes--many of them had love affairs with Stevie, but not with each other, lol. I hear more Eagles on the radio than the Mac, but I think the Eagles are going downhill with the firing of Don FELDER (had to edit this, I was in a rush when I first typed it, lol) and other interband conflicts, while the Mac has gotten back together and are on their way up!

I'm not trying to be rude, but why would you ask that question on a FM board? I don't think ANYONE here is gonna go "OMG, the Eagles are SO much better than FM!!!!"

Fleetwood Mac, they tend to be more diverse and experimental musically than the Eagles. Also, being a female, I definitely relate to The Mac's music being that there are (er...were) two females in the band. I like the boy girl chemistry, what can I say? The Eagles were too much of a boys club, but they're okay.

Speaking of the Eagles...When I was looking for the real last name of the other Don, lol...I found this...
"2.5 Besides Glenn, do any other members have health problems? Henley has throat problems, an ulcer and a bad back. He has suffered wrist injuries. We think they were carpal tunnel. He claims it was from opening a pickle jar. Don also claims to being blind in one eye. Felder also reportedly has a bad back. Joe has REALLY bad eyesight. Just ask Stevie Nicks. (To find out what we mean by this, read the liner notes to her Timespace album). Joe has also been suffering lately from a hand ailment. Randy also suffers from throat problems." taken from http://members.aol.com/ivyrain/faq.htm But I thought Stevie was the only one with bad eyesight....lol ![]()

I will have to say in my heart of hearts that the Mac is the best to me. They are so unique and always keep me hooked.
I recently heard on the radio that Don Henley was quoted as saying this (who knows what to believe but they haven't always gotten on well)...he says this time around with the Eagles is not as good as it has been in the past and he doesn't know if he will do another album with them. If things don't pan out then he still has two solo albums that he is committed to do for his label and he will go on to that if need be. I always felt the public favored The Eagles more than Fleetwood Mac, I don't know how to explain it but that is what I sense.

Apples and oranges. The Eagles do a different style of music. They're better players on the whole, as a group, but the members of FM are better individually, I think. The Eagles are better overall. Their song catalog's a bit deeper than the Mac, but they use other songwriters to develop material and F Mac does not, so score one for the Mac!
Even with all the turmoil within both groups the Eagles don't really want to work together and don't like each other. Never have. No matter what's gone down in F Mac, I think the band members do care about each other on some level or they wouldn't have tried to work together during all the drama, then and now. Not to let FM off the hook. I think both groups are mostly about the money, but the people in F Mac seem to care about each other, a little, even when they hate each other. Does that make sense? I think each individual band member in both groups is better in their band than alone, but each would have made it in another group if they hadn't gotten together. Too much talent all around. The Eagles are all about the guitars, whereas Lindsey did almost as much on his own using multi layered guitar tracks on the records. The Eagles might seem better live for that reason, but they always phone it in on stage, so who cares? At least the Mac try to look like they enjoy playing live. Both groups shine more in the studio. Now, Mick's not the best drummer in the world but he's hella better than Don. Don's got him as a songwriter of course. Christine's a better ivory player/composer than anyone in the Eagles and almost as good with lyrics, but Stevie has them all beat there. Stevie's lyrics are not as insightful and universally appealing as they used to be when she was younger, but she's still as good as any of the classic singer/songwriters still out there toiling away. Stevie gets dissed for needing Lindsey or someone else to flesh out her material, but the Eagles always worked with other songwriters and nobody says **** about that. I mean, "Say You Will" compared to "There's A Whole in the World" says enough right there. Whahaha! John McVie vs. Timmy Schmidt, tssstssstsss! Need I say more? Lindsey is not Joe or Don F, but he can hold his own as a player. He's got a similar ear as Don and Glenn for what makes a great record. He has all the record making skills anyone could ever hope to have in a band member. He easily could have been in the Eagles, if not for the package deal. Wahaha! ~~~Relatives of mine have seen both FM and the Eagles this summer (both in Nashville) and said that by far they preferred the Eagles's concert. This is a matter of opinion of course. As for me there is no question I'm with FM. But I did enjoy seeing the Eagles once during the Hell Freezes Over tour.~~~

To me a great player is someone who stands out. Lindsey's unique when it comes to playing the electric. He may not be as technically good, but then there's players who have far surpassed Hendrix for technique, but Hendrix remains far more distinctive than any of them will ever be. In a decade where everyone was ripping each other off, Lindsey was totally unique, and that puts him above most of the players of the 70s imo.
Most importantly, the Eagles don't play with anywhere near the passion and sincerity of Fleetwood Mac imo... They're quite bland really. |

Yep he does.
I don`t know too much stuff from the Eagles. But this new single is just plain and simply boring to me. I don't see that single gaining any airplay without the promotion the band's name provides. I am not too much into this rival thing- if I like a song or an album it's great no matter who it is. I like the "Counting crows" version of Big yellow taxi pretty much and I don't sniff at it only because Lindsey might have done a cover version of it too... But "Hole in the world" is really something that should be performed on an oldies revival summer garden party in front of a few spread people... ![]() |

To say which player is better is unfair. All players in both bands are quite talented, conclude this by looking at how far they have gone in their careers. However I would have to go with the Mac. As a band they experiment more with sound and are far more adventurous musically. The Mac takes more risks with their music. Whether this is at Lindsey's insistence is irrelevant, as the final product has the Fleetwood Mac name on it.
Do I like The Eagles? Yes. But I absolutely LOVE FLEETWOOD MAC. Though I do know that even if I was not a die hard Fleetwood Mac fan, I would still go with the Mac as being the better band. |
