Default Battle of the Breakup Songs

This just appeared in my Facebook, I find it fun. Songs that don’t just say “it’s over.” There are tons of songs about it, and Fleetwood Mac owns a lot of them. But the poster just choose:

𝐆𝐨 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐎𝐰𝐧 𝐖𝐚𝐲 is not polite heartbreak. It is messy, public, and still somehow impossible not to sing along with.

𝐘𝐨𝐮’𝐫𝐞 𝐒𝐨 𝐕𝐚𝐢𝐧 is the perfect revenge song because it never sounds desperate.
Carly Simon made mystery, ego, and accusation feel stylish.

𝐀𝐥𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐆𝐨𝐧𝐞 is the sound of someone getting their backbone back. The Eagles made moving on feel like a victory lap.

𝐈 𝐖𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐒𝐮𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐯𝐞 turned heartbreak into armor. Gloria Gaynor did not just leave the relationship — she took the whole room with her.

If it's just a matter of choosing the song with that topic that I like the most... hard one. I think I'll go with a tie between GYOW and IWS. Now, should they have proposed another Fleetwood Mac song?

PS: That picture is perfect for the This Really Made Me Laugh thread

I always thought Dreams was the best F*** You song....

now here you go again
you say you want your freedom.
well who am I to keep you down?

I mean, that's a total "don't let the door hit you on the way out"

And the original lyrics of the chorus:

YOU say women, they will come and they will go
Well when the rain washes you clean, you'll know

In other words, this woman will indeed be going now.

I never, ever believed her when she would sell it in interviews as a "hopeful" song..that was just her playing the usual politics against Lindsey by framing it like she was gentle and conciliatory about the break up and that he was nasty and mean in GYOW.

Sister gives as good as she gets, especially when lashing out at him. Whatever he did to her behind the scenes, she was going to make him pay by ripping him in the press any chance she got. And boy she did.

My favorite non Mac breakup song is 10cc's I'm Not in Love. It is so denial, cause actually he still is in love. Come on nobody keeps the picture of their ex upon the wall just to hide a nasty stain. The whole lyric confirms he misses her so much. Intriguing lyrics and a beautiful song.

Yes, the song is about a guy in denial.

ooo i love that song. "big boys don't cry...." All the lyrics in that song point to how men are not supposed to show their real feelings... complete denial.

I think the best Mac break up song is Bad Loser. Dear Lord Chris did not hold back and she was a bit ahead of her time calling someone a loser. But he was not just a loser he was a bad loser.

Chris went scorched earth:

Well you thought you had a hold on me
But it's different now
Everything you done before has fell upon you now
Are you just a bad loser
But you never let go
(and you're gonna go down)
Yes you'll go down, but you'll never let it show
All the strings and strokes in the ocean
Won't buy you peice of mind
All because you did what you did
You're not the peaceful kind
You're just a bad loser
And you'll never let go
(and you're gonna go down)
Yes you'll go down, but you'll never, never let it show
I think you really know what I mean
But I'll tell you one more time
Oh cause it's the truth and you know it
That you're no friend of mine
You're just a bad loser
And you'll never let go
(and you're gonna go down)
Yes you'll go down, but you'll never let it show

yeah those lyrics were pretty dark for chris. supposedly the song was written about their ex manager during the whole fake band fiasco, how he wouldn't let go of his assertion that "he WAS fleetwood mac" lol.

That would make sense. She tore him a good one. There is a live version floating around on youtube during their very brief Heroes tour. I bow to anyone that got to see that rare gem live.

I’m sure Homer would agree that Roy Clark deserves more love.

This is my favorite breakup song ever.

Without clicking on the link(seriously), I'm going to guess, it's
Thank god And Greyhound She's Gone.
