Default Everywhere is Everywhere

So once gain I can’t go anywhere and not here Everywhere. I was traveling in Europe last month and it was played many times at some pubs I visited. I’m back in the states and at Starbucks and some random stores and it comes on. I’m sure Christine’s passing may play apart and after all those commercial spots played the past several years also added to the popularity of the song. It has definitely become on of my all time favorite songs by the MAC. It’s another amazing Buckingham masterpiece.

Everywhere is indeed the most currently popular Christine song. A good and easy-to-find indicator of this is (Spotify) streaming numbers, where "Everywhere" has 1.49 billion streams, followed by "Little Lies" with 725 million, just under half, a big difference. So interesting that Christine's two most popular songs are from the Tango album.

Of course our particular preferences of we the fans may disagree. In fact the Christine songs I play most from her vary over time, since Over & Over, Don't Stop, Warm Ways, World Turning, Isn't It Midnight and Everywhere are always on my top list of most played, and Little Lies is not.

Anyway it is not surprise to me that Everywhere is the most popular. It's a beautiful song and radios love to play it.

There is that interview with Chris on MTV during the promotion of Tango where she states she is not sure what her single from the album will be Little Lies or Everywhere. IMHO the album is all Christine's. I think if Little Lies was released first it would have went to #1. I think if Isn't It Midnight was released first it would have cracked the top 10. I think if the Mac had released its Tango concert Everywhere footage to MTV as a video for Everywhere it would have made top 10 in the States. Chris easily could have had 3 major hits from the album. People were not feeling Seven Wonders (especially in Europe) and it majorly hurt the momentum of the album. Little Lies and Everywhere are the only songs you still hear from the album today.

After reading this I immediately recalled Christine's first quote Mick wrote about that infamous day, august 7, 1987.

Lindsey apologized. "Look, I'm sorry. I just can't do any more. I've given twelve years of my life to this band! I've done it all arranged, produced, played guitar, sang. I just can't . . . hack it . . . and do it all anymore."

Christine spoke now. "What do you mean, Lindsey, do it all?" Her tone was withering. It was her singles, after all, that got played on the radio, not Lindsey's. This was a sore spot, because in interviews Lindsey had been describing his role in the band as the grand interpreter of Chris's and Stevie's music to the world as if he felt he had carried the rest of the band. Nobody liked this, especially now. Lindsey was silent. No one knew what to say. Lindsey had given his answer.

What Tango lacked was a good video for Everywhere, with the five members actually in it, like SW, BL and LL were.

Yes for sure. 1987 was all about VH1/MTV videos

To be fair each singer got one video which 3 were made. That is the most number of videos made on their albums. Love In Store needed a video too.
Stevie needed a video for Nothing Ever Changes to be the third single too instead of that dreaded album killer Nightbird. But Stevie was not in good shape and 2 were enough, the same for RAL. Stevie's videos for RAL were so basic and cardboard just to get through them.
I never understood why they never released the Tango footage of Everywhere as their video. The Tango concert and Everywhere were both released about the same time.
