Tango in the Night

Does anyone have a live version of Tango in the Night? I can't find it anywhere

The only live, commercially available, concert that I am aware of is the one with Billy Burnette and Rick Vito in lieu of Lindsey Buckingham. However, it does not contain the Song Tango in the Night (as far as I know, no version of FM has performed that live in concert). I wish they'd played this song live at some point, but Lindsey quitting sort of killed its chances.

I know "I'm So Afraid" has a lot of fans, but I've grown sick of hearing it over the years. "Tango in the Night" sort of occupies the same sonic environment, but it also has a more varied arrangement. The sparse-sounding verses are such a nice contrast to the choruses, and I love the shakers and other percussion. The soft little vocal interlude before the ending solo section kicks in is really sweet, too. Another nod to Lindsey's love for Brian Wilson and SMiLE.

I would much rather hear them do "Tango" than yet another repeat of ISA.

It's never been played live.
But there seems to be a renewed interest in the album.
For me, it's my least favorite of the Buckingham Nicks FM albums, but I love the title track.

Tango is I'm so Afraid. Tango is just an offshoot of the solo part of ISA, that grew into it's own number.

No reason they couldn't rotate the two.

I don't really agree that they're the same song. Like I said, they occupy some of the same sonic landscape, but when I really look at them side by side, I think "Tango" is the better song. The verse, chorus, and vocal bridge are all quite good and unique. ISA feels more repetitive. I certainly don't dislike it, but I don't think it sounds as interesting as TITN.

Of course, I agree that the solo section is very similar.

I don't expect that we will ever hear it live, though. It wasn't a hit, nor is it considered one of those legendary album tracks they always play like "The Chain" or...well, like ISA. *sigh*

Maybe it presents a problem on stage: during the verses, there is no electric, just acoustic, and during the chorus, the emphasis is all on the electric. One guy can't switch guitars mid-song.

Pretty sure that Lindsey said somewhere that the guitar solo for "Tango" grew out of the live "I'm So Afraid" solos. Don't recall exactly where I read that, but I remember reading it somewhere.

If you listen to both songs, it's pretty obvious that Lindsey goes into "ISA" during that "Tango" solo. Can't miss it really.

Ditto. Christine's songs are flawless (apart from Mystified, which I find a snooze fest), but Stevie just wasn't there and Lindsey's ego was at an all time high. As a result, all Lindsey's stuff sounds like a Lindsey solo album and Stevie's 2 self-written tracks are a bit half-arsed (as much as I like WTTRS, it just doesn't cut the quality mustard that all her FM tracks had up to that point, and WISYA is horrendous).

That's because all of his tracks on the album were meant for an aborted solo album, apart from You and I Pt. II, which is a collaboration with Christine.

Tango in the Night is my least favorite Rumours-lineup album, too, even though it was the first Mac album I bought as a new release. I loved it at the time, but it hasn't dated well, to my ears. The only exceptions are the singles (which the label did a flawless job in selecting) and the title track that's the subject of this thread.
