Default Sound City Doc - Screencaps of Buckingham Nicks / Fleetwood Mac

This is an awesome movie! You can view it on Sound City website. It's $12.99 to stream and it's on sale tomorrow.

So much history -- and the Neve Console there, which is the big mother board, was used the first time to record - "Crying in the Night" by Buckingham Nicks!! The board was custom ordered by Keith Olsen and Lindsey and Stevie were signed to a production deal with the Sound City owners. Great details! It's so well done and if you're an audiophile you'll love it!

Here are some neat screencaps I took:

Oh, wow. I guess I didn't realize they would have old footage in the documentary. Very neat. Thanks for sharing!

yeah lots of old footage that i haven't seen before.

just saw it in the movie theater and i'm definitely glad. sound was nice and it was worth to experience it on the big screen. Nirvana segment made me feel really nostalgic for some reason and sounded so good!

BN and FM parts were something that we as fans have heard thousands of times but i was glad that movie focused on their story so much. someone (Keith Olsen?) said that Lindsey was painting while Stevie was cleaning his house. part about Lindsey painting don't think we've ever heard before... we always heard just Stevie's side how he couldn't do anything but music and she had to do all the work

lots and lots of Keith Olsen!

i'd say that the music for new SN song was definitely mostly written by her, not Grohl. sounds like some of her syw songs. i expected it would be much rockier / foo-like since they are co-writers, guess that's mostly for arrangement.

the screencaps of Lindsey that CAD posted are him doing impression of Mick rocking out to frozen love solo.

Sometimes I forget how truly good looking these people are. This was a welcome reminder. Thanks for sharing, CAD!

Yeah, this is what I loved the most about it - I didn't realize the pretty important part they played in the success of this studio. Very cool. And, Keith was sort of the guy behind all of it since he brought them in was the link to Mick. And, he ordered that board. Awesome.

I have read before that Lindsey was painting houses - I even think Richard Dashut said he and Lindsey did together. I know Hoppy has said he was doing studio work too though. But, I guess whatever he was bringing in wasn't as much as Stevie - or as consistent. It was Tom Skeeter, the owner of Sound City who said Lindsey was painting and Stevie cleaning Keith's house and that they were poor and starving. Funny, because I guess I'll believe Stevie a little more now since someone else said it. LOL. I always thought that was a great exaggeration.

LOL! I bet! I hope you'll believe one day, Elle!

Edit: I just got to the part where Stevie reads a letter she wrote to her Mom and Dad on Sound City stationery while they were recording Buckingham Nicks in 1972. She said something like "I am getting so tired of sitting here listening to 12 hours of music over and over again, but I know it will all be worth it in the end." And, "Lindsey will go down as one of the guitar greats."

I'm pretty sure those screen caps are not Buckingham Nicks circa 1973 as labeled. Stevie didn't have bangs and Lindsey didnt have a beard at that time. I believe that is Stevie and Lindsey in the studio with Walter Egan. Does anyone know, were any of Walter's albums that S&L played on recorded at Sound City?

Yeah they obviously had the wrong year on those - according to Walter he didn't meet them until after they were famous & in FM. I think both Not Shy & Fundamental Roll were recorded there -or mixed? I know some recording was done at Stevie's house.

they would put a year the band they talked about recorded in sound city studio over the pic of the band they featured... don't think they necessarily meant to date the specific photo.

Just got home from seeing this in the theater (and going out to eat afterwards!) and it was awesome!! Who knew that Crying in the Night was the first use of that board and that the subsequent success of the white FM album became a huge draw for other people to use it. I was appalled at how disgustingly grungy the studio was.... the one quote that sticks out was a guy saying "you could pee in the corner and no one would ever know"-- it was that dirty. Trying to imagine Stevie (and Chris) hanging out there. One guy (was it Tom Petty??) said they were afraid to even sit on any of the furniture. Yikes. (oh, and the smell from the nearby brewery...when the studio doors were open, it basically smelled like farts. Lovely!)

Stevie sounded AMAZING in the recording of her song You Can't Fix This. I thought maybe there was some studio wizardry going on and they were playing the finished produced track over the video but nope it was her singing live because at one point she messed up a lyric and stopped and said she messed up. I just loved her in that scene... It was curious that Dave Grohl didn't appear to have recorded anything with Lindsey... I haven't checked the album tracks to see if maybe they did and it just didn't make the movie.

It *was* a bit depressing to see how farking OLD everyone of the musicians was.... it was somehow shocking because if THEY'RE now so old, what does that make me??

Great fun. Hope everyone watches it.

Thanks much for the info! I saw this movie advertised on-line, but wasn't sure. Now moving it to the top of the must-see-quickly list.
