I was imagining what the 1987 album would have been like if Stevie hadn't been able to reunite with the band to record. What Lindsey and/or McVie songs would have replaced 7Wonders, Welcome to the Room and WISYA? I think in some nice songs from OOTC, but I don't know which ones were already written in 1987, except for Street of Dreams, which I would not have chosen. And with the 80s sound Lindsey applied to the album, they wouldn't have sounded the same as in 1992, but it's interesting to imagine anyway. Same with Christine's ITM songs.
And there are the demos from the Tango Deluxe. Not crazy about Lindsey’s, so YAI Part I would be my choice (actually the full 1+2). And definitely Ricky is not one of my choices.

It should be relatively easy to make a 1987 Buckingham McVie album given the surplus of material from Christine and Lindsey that we're aware of. Granted, the outtakes are generally skewed in Lindsey's direction. "Down Endless Street" and "You and I Part I" would be good fits, which leaves room for one more track. On the deluxe edition of Tango in the Night , "Special Kind of Love" and "Where We Belong" were both included, with the former being far more complete than the latter. I really enjoy both of them, and would not mind seeing either included. Nonetheless, I would still give the edge to "Special Kind of Love".
Other than the bridge section for "Street of Dreams", the only other songs written around 1987 that I'm aware of are "Soul Drifter" and "Say Goodbye". "Soul Drifter" was written when the band was mixing Tango in the Night, so it would have been difficult to complete that song in time. Meanwhile, Lindsey wrote "Say Goodbye" soon after his departure, so that option would be ruled out. Other than the co-write for "Where We Belong", the only other Christine song that I'm aware of is "Ricky", which would not be suitable for the album. As such, the album could look something like this: 1) You and I Part 1 2) Big Love 3) Everywhere 4) Caroline 5) Tango in the Night 6) Mystified 7) Little Lies 8) Family Man 9) Down Endless Street 10) Isn't it Midnight 11) Special Kind of Love 12) You and I Part 2 |

I do love Seven Wonders. But, really there's not much else from her. And she didn't even compose that song.

It's a cool track listing but I would put Big Love as the first track anyway. Part 1 and Part 2 together.

Sorry….but I’d still go for the original album.
Seven Wonders is a classic, and am I really the only one that loves Welcome to the Room….Sara? I absolutely love it and just cannot get my head around the hate. I’m not the biggest of SN fans, but I’d honestly put that song as one of her top 10 FM songs. It just has so much atmosphere. And….i don’t hate WISYA. I’ve grown to like it. Quite a lot. TITN is probably my fave album just as it is.

Can you imagine if in the height of the 80s Lindsey and Christine joined forces under a different moniker (similar to what Chris and Tina from Talking Heads did creating the Tom Tom Club) and put out several albums? What a potential cannon of pop hooks they had!
I'd love to know if that idea never occurred to them or did they both perceive it as being the third rail of band politics, even back then? They could have made two albums together in the time it took them to hobble together Tango and wait for people to either show up or sober up.

*shudder*
But it has NO SOUL. It's plastic. It sounds like something AI would create. It's all production, lacking substance, IMO. If I weren't so burned out on Rumours, it would be my favorite. My favorite is a toss up between Tusk and Mirage(or BuckVie).

But I know thats different than the point you were making, sonically TITN is a world away from Rumours.
