Hi all! There have probably been numemous posts or threads about the "Rumours" and "Tusk" outtakes, (that is the "Rumours" and "Tusk" double cd's with the bonus material) but I just bought them yesterday and I 'm so excited I could not help not starting a new thread about it (
)!I know most of you have had them for ages, but to me it is a really big "achievement" since I could not find them anywhere. I never expected that to happen, I think the outtakes made me appreciate the songs (or, in the case of Tusk, a whole album) even more (usually listening to outtakes of songs leaves me a bit "disappointed"). I had always prefered Rumours to Tusk but I had to hear the outtakes to realise that Tusk is a masterpiece (don't flame me that it took me so long to figure that out! ). I don't know how to explain this..So, anyway, I would be glad to hear some views, if you 'd like to. |

I think the remasters are absolutely fabulous.
And I agree with pretty much everything you posted. |

They're fantastic and Tusk truly is a masterpiece. Now if they would just afford MIRAGE the same treatment.

Interestingly, bands that sell alot less albums are able to remaster and re-release their entire back catalogues...so why the Mac would be any different is beyond my understanding. I suspect that the band has to be involved in these remasters in some way....and since Lindsey is usually the one to take on these types of projects, and since he is supposedly working on his own album, perhaps Mirage & Tango are still to come, maybe on the toes or heels of another tour. ![]() |

When I first got mine...
The Rumours outtakes make me really appreciate the album. Some favorites are the extended Silver Springs, the version of Songbird with the guitar, the Oh Daddy with more backing vocals and harmonies, the version of Gold Dust Woman with the snippet of If You Ever Did Believe at the end, and Planet of the Universe. Of course, the re-mastering on the original recordings is awesome. I remember listening to the remastered GDW for the first time and going "Holy ****!" because of some of the stuff at the end that I had never heard before. Of course, my previous copy of Rumours was burnt and probably a piece of crap. As for the Tusk reissues, I didn't appreciate the outtakes at first. As a relatively new fan (less than a year) I hadn't actually heard Tusk (the album) until I got the re-master. See, I heard about the pending re-issues and was holding out. So sitting down one day and listening to ALL of Tusk and then listening to ALL of the outtakes...well to a new listener the outtakes didn't sound much different from the original album. However, as time went on and I became familiar/obsessed with Tusk, the outtakes were further appreciated. Of course, I am one of a few who doesn't really appreaciate all of the instrumental, nameless Lindsey demos that all kind of sound the same to me if I'm not really listening (sorry). I absolutely love the 'Cleaning Lady' version of Sara, as well as the heartbreaking version of Storms (I wish they would do it live in that style). There is something very haunting about the outtake of Never Make Me Cry. There first time I really got it, I was walking to school in the rain and it was just...magical. Other favorite outtakes include Brown Eyes, Beautiful Child, Walk a Thin Line, and Kiss and Run (so fun...I wish it was longer). As a big fan of both Mirage and Tango (but especially Mirage), I wish they would get on with it and remaster both. But I've said that many times.

I'm the same, I can't find FM stuff _anywhere_. The one time I did find the expanded Tusk in a shop I had no money!! So, I don't know Tusk, because I'm holding out for getting the reissue too! But I just love Rumours expanded. I love hearing the early Silver Springs and Planets of the Universe. Awesome. And the cute stuff, like hearing them laughing in the background, or Mic the Screecher, which is just hilarious.

Speaking of remasters. Back when CD's were hitting the market, it was announced that Rumours was going to be properly remastered but they were going to do it without any repackaging or annoucement. So the longer you waited to buy the Rumours CD, the more likely you would get the "silent" remastered album. I think this info was originally published in Ice Magazine.
But at least this time around, they gave us a bonus CD and a re-working of the Rumours album by adding Silver Springs and switching the sequence. |

Edit: I'm thinking that the version of "Never Going Back Again" might have been different, too.

Ok, I finally got the "Rumours" remastered for Christmas. Now I have heard it once or twice before with Paula and I cannot get over the ending on "Silver Springs"! The aahhaahhaaahhaahhh, oohhoohhohhoohhh at the end is so fricken awesome! Why oh why was this not left in the song? I LOVE IT! I have a outter body experience every time I hear it. Just thought I 'd share

I really dislike the album as well, but I would still love a remaster and bonus disc - if only for Christine and Stevie's tracks
