2006 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Nominees Leave Out Many Again

Cleveland, Ohio (AHN) – The nominees for the Class of 2006 for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is filled with a lot of hold overs from previous years and virtually ignores a truckload of artists that many critics are shaking their heads over.

J.Geils Band, John Mellencamp, the Patti Smith Group, Chic, Joe Tex, Miles Davis, Cat Stevens, Blondie, the Paul Butterfield Band, the Dave Clark Five and the Sir Douglas Quintet will all have a chance to make it into the hall of fame, located in Cleveland.

This year also marks the eighth chance for Black Sabbath, Lynyrd Skynyrd gets their seventh chance, and the Sex Pistols and the Stooges all of which are on try number five.

Missing from the nomination list again this year include bands like Rush, Van Halen, Yes, Genesis, ELO, Joan Jett, Def Leppard, Alice Cooper, Heart, Deep Purple, Pat Benatar, and Duran Duran.

Nominees are picked by a 70-member committee of rock 'n' roll historians, journalists and label execs, with ballots then mailed to an international voting body of 700 music industry types for the final decision. The five to seven nominees that receive the most votes will be inducted into the Rock Hall next year.

I don't think Stevie will ever be nominated or inducted as a solo artist... just my opinion

If she is, it won't be for many, many years. She was inducted with Fleetwood Mac, they aren't chomping at the bit to induct her as a solo artist, especially with all of the artists and bands that have been passed over year after year.

Heart? Van Halen?? Pat Benatar?? yeah ok, no, Stevie will not be nominated for the R & R Hall Of Fame anytime soon.. especially if she decides to never record another solo record ever again, which seems to be the way this is going

BARF!!!! (This is not anything against the new nominees btw)

I wished the Crock & Blow Hall of Shame would burn completely to the ground or even better be sucked into the black hole of corporate mediocrity that it is...I dont need some f**kin' place to honor artists who have been groundbreaking & memorable.

To hell with the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

Personally, I was shocked when he agreed to reform with Tina, Chris, and Jerry for even that one Hall of Fame induction show. Shocked, I tell you. And then they teased us by saying a reunion could happen and years later, nada.

Dudes, I'm totally expecting Stevie to get in once she's nominated. Eventhough she didn't make the list her first time out, once she's there I'm sure she'll get in. She is well liked, has worked with so many artists, and is considered an inspiration by many young performers today. And she has contributed well enough as a solo artist to reckon her worthy.

The older he gets, the crazier he gets. Which is saying a lot when you look at how nuts he was when they started out. He's a hell of a musician though.
