Fleetwood Mac in Rolling Stone Top 500 Songs

Fleetwood Mac is listed in the new Rolling Stone list of the 500 greatest songs of all time. They made the list twice:

Go Your Own Way #119
Rhiannon #488

I'm not sure I'd agree with those two songs being the greatest Fleetwood Mac songs.

I didn't see this posted yet and wanted to see what everyone thoughts are on this...

I hate these lists. The top always contains whoever is trendy at the time. Top list of female singers....best guitarists.....etc. and Rollingstone always picks the same 3 reviewers who HATE Mac and Stevie. No matter what is put out, they hate it.

I'd say those are the two best Fleetwood Mac songs. At least of the rumours era. Rhiannon is my all time favorite Fleetwood Mac song and GYOW is in my FM top 10.

In terms of major hits, they're really hitting on this one.

Except...I still don't think the Beatles own music.

I just think to myself, at least they made the list. How many times did they not?

Shall we go back to the 100 Greatest Guitarists....shudder.

Two songs, cool. I think they could have had 100 songs on there but I am a tad biased.

I can't wait to get this magazine, I really want to see it.

Isn't it interesting that everytime some "top" whatever song list comes out it's always a Lindsey song, Go Your Own Way, that makes it in there (it's in the Smithsonian as one of the top 100 influential songs of all time I think), yet as a band Stevie is perceived as the better song writer....

I suspect if we play the averages she wins out but LB always has the number 1 song..

When 97 Rock anual clssic rock 500, the top Fleetwood Mac song is usually GDW, The Chain, Oh Well, GYOW or Stevie's Edge of 17. It's different every year.

The studio version of Rhiannon is nothing to write home about. Landslide and Silver Springs both blow it out of the water. GYOW is great.

These lists are kind of a joke, and really overdone.

I can't stand when people say Rhiannon is nothing unless it's live. I love the studio version of Rhiannon just as much as any of the wild live performances of the 70's. The song is greatness in any form (even the Enchanted version is OK)

woot. I agree. the studio version is different, but i love it's mellow, rockin, snazziliciousness. it has a smoothy groove, for sure. it still gives me shivers.

I just personally don't care for it. The wild live versions from the '70s don't really do it for me either, to be honest. I like her latter-day performances, after her voice reached it's present huskiness. I'd even take the Enchanted version over the original studio version.

I'd agree with that to a certain extent. Rhiannon never really gets me in the mood.

I'm So Afraid and The Chain are the main ones I get fired up by, when I hear it or play ISA on guitar I love it... Never tire of it.
