Best Buy 1997 Collector's Edition

Hi,

I just got the 1997 FM "The Dance" Collector's Edition that was put out by Best Buy. I won it off eBay and the seller mentioned how during the initial pressing of Disc 1, there was a mistake and that new ones would be sent out to replace the original disc. Anyway, he included both the original and re-printed, but I was just wondering if anyone knew what the mistake on the original Disc 1 was. Any help would be appreciated!!

If I remember correctly, it was something with the "Gypsy" track- it played at a weird speed- either too fast or too slow.

I waited long enough to send in my coupon for mine that I got the corrected version.

That's exactly what it was. I kept mine.

Ya, I think the originally was played too slow. My husband walked in and heard it while Gypsy was playing and started making fun of it. He said it sounded like Lindsey's vocals sounded like he was singing bad opera - lol! This was all before we got the notice saying something was wrong and they;d be sending a new cd. I thought it was actually pretty funny they sent new cd's out. That must have been quite a little cost expense.

When they handed the postcards out at the concert to order the cd, I thought that maybe it would be a recording of the concert I attended. It just seemed like it was something they could do with modern technology. I was somewhat disappointed that it was just a few songs, interviews, and some sampler of other artists. Still, it was cool to get an early version of SYHA.

Now many artists are actually making cds of their entire tours available to fans, including Pearl Jam, Peter Gabriel, The Who, and Duran Duran. It's a shame FM didn't do something like that. Can you imagine how cool it would be to get a soundboard recording of the concert you attended? Whoa!

I believe I was watching Sixty Minutes and it was covering The Grateful Dead (or "The Dead" as they are called since the death of Jerry) and even THEY give out DVDs following their shows. Yep, FM could make a few extra bucks doing this. You'd think Mick would have come up with the suggestion by now.

I guess they figure we are content with the DVD. (Don't give the fans TOO much at once!) There's a whole lotta could'ves and should'ves with this band.

Oh, sheesh. Don't deride them for not doing the recording thing. Those five bands John listed are pretty much the only artists who ARE doing this. It's a completely new concept, new to the last year or two, and a lot of people aren't ready or aren't sure if they should utilize it yet.

There isn't a whole lot of money in it, the logistics are still difficult, and what grosses me out is that Instant Live, the big innovator in this new trend, are now owned by Clear Channel.

Frankly, I don't think doing it would be a good idea for them anyways since EVERY SHOW IS THE SAME- at least with those other artists, ESPECIALLY Pearl Jam, they actually have different sets and totally mix it up from night to night making it worth it to the fans to actually get different shows.

Yes, the show is essentially the same EVERY night. But wouldn't it be nice to have a soundboard copy of the shows you were at that weren't the same as the one provided on the DVD? Not a lot of money involved, according to a friend of mine.
