Last album?

Hy everyone,

I'm just wondering if 'Say You Will' will be the last FM album. After releasing it the band will go on a worldwide tour which will end in late 2004 or early 2005. After that there will be a vacation break of at least a year so it will be 2006 when the group has the opportunity to get back into the studio. Considering the time Lindsey needs to create an album it would not be earlier than 2008 when a new album will come out. Alternatives: Lindsey will release a solo album after the tour. (Although he has enough leftovers I don't think that it will come out immediately, so a possible FM album after releasing a solo one will see us in 2010.) Other possibility: FM throws in the five leftovers from the 'Say You Will' sessions (which we know now aren't all Lindsey songs) plus 3 leftovers from Christine's solo album and three new songs from Lindsey, Stevie und Christine, get in the studio, record these 6 songs (which will take a year) and release a final album in 2006/2007 called 'Swan song' without touring.

BTW am I the only one who's a bit freaked out about all this '2005', '2008', '2010' stuff? I feel like I'm in a science fiction book

I for one have no idea but obviously dream for a second FM album - possibly over an LB album...(hides face from tomatoes)

Don't agree with Christine coming back into the album mix though. And don't get me wrong - I am the biggest Chrsitine fan! Next to Cristian!!
I'd rather see Christine just do her solo thing. Damn I can't wait for that album!

This is absurd. By 2008 and beyond, they will be just about ready to soon start collecting social security. In my opinion, solo stuff is certainly possible, but another large-scale Fleetwood Mac project is just not realistic. It's got to end sometime. And, Christine is definitely done with Fleetwood Mac.

I know it's scary to think about, but 2008 is only 5 years away, and that's excactly how long ago from now the Dance was. I don't think it's all that unfeasible to exect something in the future. I hardly think their bodies are going to begin to decompose in the next five years, as you seem to be implying, and I highly doubt their ambition to create music will fade away in such a short amount of time. I expect at least one more solo project from Stevie, and I wouldn't say one more FM album is out of the question. Perhaps they will grow tired of extensive touring, but nothing should prohibit them from recording.

Every time they put out a new album I think it might be their last.
I figured the Dance would have been it. That's why I'm so excited about this one. The best part for me is the chance to see them live again.

If they don't put out another album,I think each one of them will continue to work in the business in one form or another. I'm kinda wishing for Stevie & Lindsey to come out with an album on their own, with maybe with a few old BN songs thrown into the mix.

That sounds really nice. If they do something low-key in the next few years that weren't hyped up because of the FM name (it may be a refreshing change after SYW becomes a huge hit and all the hoopla dies eventually down), that would be really nice...I love it when they paired up for "Twisted." I want a Lindsey solo so badly... I just need to hear the final versions of those gorgeous GOS demos the way he wants us to hear them. But I think Lindsey could easily release some, if not all of that material on a second BN album...without having Stevie's influence cramp his style. Keep in mind every FM album he's been on has songs that Stevie probably didn't contribute to at all. I just love Stevie's music when it's influenced by Lindsey.
Then again, I might just be entertaining this idea now because I'm so annoyed with Mick and wouln't mind seeing them distance themselves from him. But I guess I should seperate my opinions of their business skills from my opinions of their artistic ones.

I don't know what the terms of their record contract are. Maybe they owe their label more albums.

Personally, I think they're out of time. We saw how the reunion popularity did nothing to ramp up the rate at which they release music. If that didn't do it, nothing will. I also don't believe they're going to be on the road for "Say You Will" through 2004. No flippin' way. If these guys tour for even six months, I'll eat my suitcase. These are not people who have the youth or the stamina or the desire or the history for maintaining a two-year tour. To repeat: there's no flippin' way.

There's also no flippin' way that studio stuff is going to be released on the heels of this tour, whether it's a Buckingham solo album or another Mac album of leftovers. Since 1975, the band has never done that & it just rings so false to me that this would happen. Everybody keeps talking about whole albums' worth of material being left over & "ready" to send to market. I think the idea that they would push this "Say You Will" album for six months with publicity & a tour & then put something else out right on its heels is ridiculous. How can you think Fleetwood Mac would do that? This is a band that has taken five years to follow up a smash reunion with more studio work. Five years!

Now as for Stevie herself, I think she'll keep going solo. I think that last tour of hers didn't exactly give her closure because of all the terrible stuff that occurred. She'll want to tour again, & she moves quite a bit quicker than Fleetwood Mac does. I bet she'll write some more songs on the road & start recording them after Fleetwood Mac gets home from touring. All she needs is about two years from the time her Mac participation ends until the time she's ready to release something.

Mick, of course, will continue to concoct harebrained business schemes. Christine may not do anything if she can't get a label to release the music she's working on now. Lindsey will just slide off the radar screen altogether, but continue to give occasional interviews in which he says that the music he's doing "now is the best music I've ever done, either alone or with Fleetwood Mac." And we'll hear it when some A&R guy somewhere leaks it.

John might just literally wind up twiddling his thumbs, particularly once his daughters reach driving age.

Well, I don't agree (nor I see) with Christine coming back to the Mac ever again. I mean, the thing is over, she has spoken and I still wait for the solo album she was preparing. But then FM is now Stevie, Lindsey, Mick and John. No 'Christine coming back'... at least for me. And yes, I am a big fan of hers.

I believe this too will be Fleetwood Macs' last recording....sorry if that sounds pessimistic- but Im even suprised that we are gettiing this one.....there was doubt cause it took soooo long.
Maybe, just maybe they might get together and do a farewell tour in 4-5 years or better yet on the 3rd leg of this tour they will suddenly announce this is their Farewell tour to milk it out even more [email protected] new recordings- Hmmm I really have my doubts...unless SYW becomes a runaway smash selling 4-5 million or more copies

But I do anticipate moderate success for SYW (1--2 million ) and that will spearhead at least Stevie and MAYBE Lindsey to do some solo recordings..

I think there will be another album with Lindsey at the helm. It might be a Fleetwood Mac album or a solo project, but I think he still has a lot left in him. Judging from interviews it sounds as though he feels like he is definitely at his strongest now, both as a writer/producer and also as a guitarist. I don't think this will be the last we hear from LB.

There's no doubt in mind at all that Stevie will continue to make albums, regardless of whether it's with FM or on her own. She loves writing too much to ever stop.

I hope they decide to continue as Fleetwood Mac, but if either of them leaves, I think the band (i.e. Mick) should call it day. i.e. don't go hire Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears to replace them. (It would no doubt be a very tempting thought for him though...think about all that young hard-earned spectator CA$$$$$$$$H!!!)

I don't think this tour will end in late 2004. Maybe they want to, but let's realize, they are in their fifties.

I would suggest them to save energies for a next (soon) album , touring or not. And I hope, with Christine (why don't they record in England??)

But long tours, I'd love them, but I prefer more albums..

About Lindsey's time to get inspired, well if this album works great, maybe he will want to record again soon!!

I'm just enough of a dreamer to agree with Seteca on this one. They do have a lot of material left over, if we can believe what we hear. Maybe there's another album in the works to follow. Stranger things have happened (but not many!)

About them NEVER putting out another album quickly, is everyone forgetting the Fleetwood Mac (White Album)/Rumours scenario? Was it even a year between those two albums? So it's not unheard of. But maybe Lindsey wasn't as much of a perfectionist back then.

Anyway, I'm thinking there could be another album on the way, and not so far in the future that we'll all be driving hydrogen-powered flying cars when it gets here.

Ok - since we're in to speculating a bit, I thought I'd add my two cents:

I'm not at all convinced that this will be the last FM album with Lindsey and Stevie. As we've seen in interviews (particularly Lindsey's VH1 behind the music), it sounds like Lindsey Stevie, and Mick have all ronconciled those resentments with each other. They've grown up, and are finding they can work together once again. Why else would Lindsey decide to roll a solo effort ten years in the making into the FM progect? In everything I've read and seen about Lindsey, he's not about the money - he's all about the art. It also appears that he may have been a little wiser about the money he's earned over the years - thus he really doesn't NEED the money to do what he wants to do. My contention is that the members' friendships and working relationships have been totally rekindled due to maturity - time heals all wounds.

Also, Lindsey has stated that he wished he could make albums faster, and that maybe he will be able to do that in the future. I think he's just getting warmed up. I think he's learned so much over the years about producing, technology, etc. that it is no longer as time consuming for him to do what he wants to do. In essence, he appears to be getting his art down to a science to the point where he knows how to accomplish what he's after much more quickly. With all the technological advances in music over the last 15 years (i.e. digital hard drive recording, etc), he's probably had to learn a LOT of stuff. It may be that things that used to take a lot longer to do no longer require as much time due to these advances in technology. Look how quickly he was able to produce this new FM album (Stevies songs, etc) compared to how long it has historically taken him to do his solo albums. It's only been a couple of years. I mean, I realize this is all just specualtion, but these are my contentions based on what I've seen and heard.

In short, I think the claims of others on this board that this will be the last FM album are completely baseless. All the evidence that we've seen appears to lend itself to the exact opposite point of view. Even Lindsey has said of his relationship with Stevie something to the effect that they're learning to trust each other again - something he said they were unable to do for a long time.

However, with that said, I will say that even if this is the last FM album, I don't think it will be Lindsey's last. And if it is the last FM record, I agree with others that Mick should just hang it up and call it a day. No sense in trying to come up with another version of the band. I mean, while "Time" was a good record, it wasn't Lindsey, and that made all the difference. You really had to listen to it as a "non-Fleetwood Mac" record to be able to appreciate it.

So that's my humble opinion -
