I'll post a LOT more when I get a chance - just wanted to check in and say that I had an amazing time in both Amsterdam and London. Out of the 10 shows I've seen, the Nov. 29th London show was the best, with San Antonio running a close second. Stevie was absolutely on fire - I got choked up during Rhiannon, of all songs, which usually doesn't happen...must have been the close proximity to Wales or something, I don't know, but I had goosebumps during the entire song. Gold Dust Woman, however, was better on the 30th - it totally ROCKED! And something about the way Stevie was singing the "shadow" part at the end was very cool.

I shook Peter Green's hand - heard from someone on the crew that Jimmy Page had also attended the Nov. 30th show...saw Justin Timberlake in a coffee shop in Amsterdam and James Brown kept stalking me all over Europe...

Before my trip, I did a search on Pollstar to see who might be playing in Amsterdam and/or London (besides FM). I noticed that James Brown was playing in Amsterdam on Nov. 26, but it was already sold out. I thought maybe I'd head to the arena that night anyway and try to get a ticket.

Once I got there, I emailed a girl named Alicia from New York, who I'd met on a message board. We were supposed to meet in my hotel lobby at 1 PM to hit some museums together. While waiting for her - several people wearing James Brown laminates began to come out of the elevators and fill the lobby with their luggage and instruments. I approached one of them and played dumb, asking if they had played somewhere last night. The guy said they were playing tonight, but it was sold out. I said, "Oh, that's too bad." I was hoping he'd offer me tickets, but he didn't -and I was too embarrassed to ask.

It was now 2 PM and no sign of Alicia. I went upstairs to check my voicemail and she called at 1:30 and said she wasn't going to make it, and we'd shoot for Thursday instead. Frustrated that I'd wasted precious time waiting for her, I left. If I'd hung out in the lobby a little longer, I'm sure I would have seen James Brown.

Three days later in London, Pip, Louise, Tommer and I were in the bar at the hotel Fleetwood Mac stayed in. There was a VERY large black man sitting in the bar, wearing a suit and looked as if he was in the secret service - we thought he might be security for someone in the Mac. The configuration of the lobby, elevators and our view from the bar made it difficult to see everyone who was coming and going. We did see Mick walk up the stairs from the spa and gym and head into a restaurant. But once we realized that anyone exiting an elevator could get to the lobby from the opposite side of the bar, we wouldn't see them. The large man in the bar got a call on his cell phone and got up...so we loitered in the elevator area and within a few minutes, here comes James Brown - greeted by the large man. So, we were right about him being a security guard, but he was for James Brown! LOL We all just kind of stood there, star struck. James acknowledged us with a nod and a smile and into the elevator he went. Once the doors closed, I said, "Good GAAAWD, y'all, that was James Brown - he's stalking me!" He's very tiny! LOL

I'm waiting for Pip to write her account of the first 2 London shows so I can just elaborate and add my comments....Heh.

I love the coffeeshops in Amsterdam! It's kinda weird to order... like you're ordering food or something. I wonder what Justin was doing there...

Yep! Especially the one I kept going back to again and again....they sell coffee w/ hash in it, so when you order coffee, they'd always clarify, "regular?"

I saw Justin Timberlake at Rookie's . Alicia and I had just come out of the Rijksmuseum and it was the first bar/coffee shop we ran into. There were a lot of Americans in there, we noticed. We met people from all over the country. A couple of teenage boys were sharing a bong at the table next to ours. After awhile, a group of about 10 people walked in and were hanging out on the other side of the pool table from where we were sitting. Alicia said to me, "Okay, either I'm stoned, or that's Justin Timberlake over there." My first reaction was, "Why would Justin be HERE?" Alicia told me that he was on tour w/ the Black Eyed Peas and had a gig in Aarlem (I think that's how it's spelled - near Amsterdam). Well, there's really only one person who looks like Justin Timberlake, and that's the man himself! They were all just hanging out...we looked for Cameron Diaz, she wasn't there. They walked right past us on their way out, I got a good look and I was convinced. The funny thing was, everyone in the place was being so non-chalant about it, until he left. And then, IMMEDIATELY, the entire bar was buzzing (no pun intended), "OMG, that was Justin Timberlake, did you see him?" It was hilarious! I'm sure he would have been friendly, if approached, but everyone just played it cool.
