Does anyone have this track? It's off of Very Special Christmas 5 I think. If you can point me to a download I'd appreciate.
Thanks, John |

Not that anybody asked, but I much prefer the 1987 version.

The newer version is just toned down so much more-it's nice though. It is also probably more palatable to the mainstream than the 87 version (which I love too!). Her take on the ending is so freakin' cool and so totally Stevie that I am always surprised at Christmas when I single that song out and play it over and over and over how many people complain. (My poor friends-Stevie and the Mac crammed down their throats- I am relentless and never back down). They dont like her 87 voice and they dont like the end -the best qualities of that song.
The very end: Robbie Nevil, wailing "Well it was a..." then Stevie, "silent...silent....(a capella): night" I've rewound (yes, still have it on the original tape I bought in 87) and listened to that part a gazillion times. There's some little reverberating warble (for lack of the right words) in her voice there. It's also very prominent in the word "swell" in the line "to veil, swelling tears" from Talk to Me. (I've listened to that little part over and over too. Anyone else know what I'm talking about? Or how to describe it? It just sounds so cool to me-a sound I've never heard come out of anyone but Stevie! |

Thanks so much for the link! I too love the 87 version, but just knowing that another is out there was driving me nuts.

As some of you might already know, these versions of Silent Night were recorded on the "A Very Special Christmas" albums to benefit "The Special Olympics." I hope any fans will also purchase these albums so that the purpose of Stevie's participation on them will be honored.
There's great stuff on both of the ones that Stevie is on, and you can buy them via a link from The Penguin at CD NOW/Amazon.com ![]() |
