If you want to go for just an overview, then this one is the best for the price, as an introduction to to the band. Other than that, I'm with Jason- Avalon is a great album.

I just have a best of Bryan Ferry and Roxy Music compilation. Good to know a few albums I should pick up too!

So, my friend Kara totally brushed against Bryan Ferry in a coffee shop I think in Vancouver. She still has heart attacks when she thinks about it!

Flesh And Blood is my favorite from the later, smoother era. Manifesto is a nice transition between the early and later styles. All of Ferry's solo stuff is great, too.

For those of you who like Ferry's song "Slave To Love," there's an amazing cover of it by Willy DeVille on his Crow Jane Alley disc. Better than the original!

I'd say start with Avalon, but you really can't go wrong with any Roxy Music/Bryan Ferry selection. Bryan Ferry put out a "Best of the Ballads" album a few years back and its completely swoon-worthy.

If you want a sample of the more unusual stuff they did with Brian Eno, get For Your Pleasure. Although Stranded is on par with that, qualitywise.

I'd have to echo going with Avalon for a first purchase, that's the first Roxy Music album I heard and I loved it. I suggest checking out Siren too, "Love Is The Drug" is probably my 3rd-fave Roxy Music song of them all.

Ferry's version is a great tune. Sort of a last-call-at-the-dance-club ballad.

Willie makes it a soul tune with that bluesy voice of his, and it all fits perfectly.

I've been heavily into Ferry/Roxy of late. I have this problem where my wife hates most everything I listen to, so I have to keep the volume down or wear headphones, which I don't like to do at home. One day she came home and said a friend of hers had this nice disc by "Byron Farris" and had I ever heard of him. I eventually figured out that she had heard As Time Goes By, so I dragged out the full catalog and made copies for her car and office. Turns out her favorite is The Bride Stripped Bare. So now, whenever I get the urge to turn something up, I throw on some Roxy and she doesn't mind at all.

Actually, the Willy Deville/Mink DeVille catalog is another one that we agree on. Not much else, though.
