Default Can't-go-wrong Actors

So I was thinking about this after reading the Immortal Beloved thread and how Gary Oldman made what could've been a sh*t movie perfectly watcheable. So who are the actors you rely on to make a movie good? Like you know its gotta have something redeemable in it if they're there?

Some of mine:

-Laura Linney
-William H. Macy
-Patricia Clarkson
-Phillip Seymour Hoffman
-Hope Davis
-good ol' Gary Oldman

I agree with each one of these, esp. Barbra, Bette and Diane. I'll also go with Richard on Pfeiffer.

In order:
Guys-
Gary Oldman
Christopher Walken
Morgan Freeman (Legendary status imo. The guy can act his ass off!)
Willem Defoe
Ving Rhames
Jason Stratham (ok, so he's not a household name yet, but he will be, and currently holds HOTTIE status!)
Hmm, that's all I can come up w/ now. The others that have been mentioned rock, but these guys imo really deserve their due!

Chicks-
Michelle Pfeiffer
Angelina Jolie (freak of nature, but billiant in Girl Interupted & Gia)
Chloe Webb (Has been, but in her day she RAWKED!)
Jodie Foster
Cher (YES CHER!)
Charlize Theron
& Milla Jovovich!

Joaquin Phoenix
Johnny Depp
Russell Crowe

I should say though that all three have been in some really awful movies, but all of them were awful despite the fine performances by these guys.

On the flip side, there are also many actors that I have the opposite reaction to, that is to say that I WILL NOT watch a movie if they are in it unless there is a very compelling reason to overlook their presence. Here are a few of those:

Tom Cruise
Billy Bob Thornton
Halle Berry
Pierce Brosnan
Orlando Bloom
Jude Law
Adam Sandler
Jim Carrey
Mike Meyers
Owen Wilson
George Clooney

This is great list already, and most of those I would have picked have been mentioned (so impressed with Patricia Clarkson!) but I could add some...

Adam Brody
Daniel Day Lewis
Don Cheadle
Laura Dern
Cate Blanchett
Sissy Spacek

My all-time favorite actress died not that long ago: Anne Bancroft.

Jack Nicholson
Jodie Foster
Parker Posey
Bette Davis
Isabelle Adjani (okay, actually you can go wrong with some of her movies, but not with her)
Julianne Moore
Kevin Kline
Don Cheadle
Owen Wilson
Michelle Pfeiffer (I sometimes think I might pay just to stare at her for an hour and a half, she is so pretty).
Christopher Walken
Phillip S. H.
Edit - Diane Lane. I guess you can go wrong, but I just love her, think she's gorgeous.

Oh, I did this without reading anyone else's list.

One that I didn't notice mentioned but a favorite for many years is Meryl Streep. It was good to see Philip Seymour Hoffman recognized this year and someone that Amber mentioned, Parker Posey, is also a great talent.

That actually is enough said.
I can't believe I forgot her. She's extremely compelling, a huge favorite. Kids, if you haven't seen "Girl Most Likely To..." you might like it. I think the girls will like it more.

Beachwood Mac - I think Meryl is always automatically on the list. *but seriously* or, she made the list. Or something.
