Destiny Rules question

Can anyone clear up exactly what was going on in the segment of the documentary where Stevie and Lindsey were fighting about the mixing process?
I got that Lindsey was upset because Chris Lord-Alge was asking for more material than he should have. But what was the deal with Stevie making the phone call and so on?
