Mick's book was pretty accurate

I think Mick's book was pretty accurate. As far as it went! And as for "talk of friction in the band". In this band? We've just floated through the years on a cloud of sweet contentment!

Note the somewhat tongue-in-cheek "As far as it went!" after that sentence, though.

I still think it was accurate. There was very little in that book that hadn't already come out in the music rags over the years. I think some of the stories were exaggerated, but, it's not like he's the only member of Fleetwood Mac to exaggerate a story. Add to it drugs and emotions, and the stories might not be 100% accruate. Still, having spent many hours in the past reading articles on the band, I can honestly say that most of what was published wasn't news.

As for the affair with Stevie, is there anybody who hadn't figured that one out anyway? He just confirmed what most of us had suspected for years.

She got around more than a Merry-go-round(and I'm not ruling that possibility out either!).

John McVie and Bob Welch have both said the book is accurate. I'm sure there's alot that Mick left out, but I find the book very credible. It's a great read. I'm glad he wrote it.

I absolutely adore Stevie, but she really did get around. She slept with a portion of Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles, and possible Tom Petty's Heartbreakers. I heard years ago that she was responsible for a divorce - possibly Petty's? Not sure. I remember it was a quote from someone who sounded pretty bitter.

As for La Nicks - she was so pretty and famous, that it seemed she was in a veritable Candy Store when it came to men. They must have been available to her - like she had a "man tree" - where men just fell from the trees, and she could pick one up and take him home. Oh, well...rock on, baby!!! Those were the days. Who didn't sleep with whom back then? This was pre-AIDS and pre-rehab in our culture. As for Stevie - seems like she's had her fill, and keeps more to herself these days.

So maybe at the time they did manage to keep it under wraps..?

I actually remember being sort of surprised by that when I read Mick's book. I guess I didn't think Mick would be Stevie's type.

A lot of the little ancedotes about the tours (for example) was being spoken of for the first time in the book. But it was bizarre to be reading along & repeatedly encountering the same speechways & phrases that one had encountered twenty years earlier in Hit Parader or Circus or Rolling Stone. I'm not sure just what Stephen Davis was up to, but I don't think he put much genuine effort into his scripting.

Apparently, most had not suspected it. They've repeatedly talked about how they didn't know Mick & Stevie were hooked up until they read about it in Mick's book. It was not widespread knowledge (although by 1990 or so, Stevie had talked to the press so much about how Mick was her knight in shining armor, that some fans probably made some assumptions on their own). However, a rock mag had very slyly hinted at it a long time ago -- back in 1980 or even 1979. It ran a photo of Mick & Stevie together -- which is no big deal in & of itself -- but the caption said something about the two of them having been together. It's the only instance of revealing that particular fact I can remember in the old days. Or at least it's the only one I saw (but I scanned those magazines religiously back then for Fleetwood Mac mentions). The problem was that because it was just a single little blurb, I chalked it up to a factual error.

I thought the book was great. Everything that was really "big" in the book has been admitted by one or the other members....

And I never got the impression reading it either that it was any kind of "tell all" like some celebrities write.

yeah me neither... i read it so fast.. i was hungry for FM at that time...

me too. I remember scouring all the libraries in my town to find it and I ended up finding it at the Eudora Welty library in the basement. I was so excited and read it so fast I barely remember anything.
