Always liked the Johnny Rivers cover. It’s sweet and sincere. Van Morrison liked the original so much he urged Jackie De Shannon sing it on one of her albums. There’s another interesting Spare Me cover: Annie McCloone (Fast Annie) from 1976 or 77. She was someone from the Walter Eagan stable.
Edit: the song didn’t make the final cut for Jackie’s album (as it didn’t make the final cut of Van’s album either) but it was released on JD’s ALL THE LOVE compilation in 2015.
