I felt the same longing when I first heard Paper Doll. That song, along with Love Shines, Make Me A Mask & Heart Of Stone on The Chain box set made me miss the Mac really bad. For me, these new songs were so much better than almost anything from Behind The Mask. I remember hiding my feelings of disappointment in that record, due to my loyalty towards FM & Stevie Nicks.
And I've always liked the TISL demo of Not Make Believe better than the SYW version. Something got lost in translation. When the bridge & chorus kick-in, the songs kicks ass, but the verses droop & languish. The musical arrangement in the verses also feels too sparse, and the cold beginning does not work well with Stevie's older voice. It accentuates the cold metallic sonic quality of her voice. Same goes for RTTG & DR intros.
