Now the furniture and everything gets removed (and destroyed of course) from her flat and is thrwon away, exept all the things i could keep. And i got to hear and see it.
I was with her in this flat so often.... i miss her and this is hard to stand ...
saw someone throwing away glasses out of the closet into a bag and breaking them... so i left into my room. and am writing that.

We were not close at all, and it had been many years since we'd spoken, but there was something very chilling about closing out the final chapter of one's life, especially when it ends so suddenly and violently. The apartment was pretty much as it was the day she left it. A friend of a friend had come up from Philadelphia to take her clothing (he was opening a vintage store) and a few pieces of furniture. But I had to do something with the rest of it- books, CDs, cookware, etc. I did manage to disperse most of it to friends, but it was those last few remnants that were most haunting. In a back closet I had found boxes of meticulously packed law school notebooks. What the hell was I going to do with that? All at once it dawned on me how kind of meaningless this all is. I am not one for monuments are leaving legacies, but this symbolized all of the struggle and hard work we put into our lives, yet, at the end of the day, it's just... garbage. Four years of studying, schooling and student loans basically resulted in a few anonymous boxes to be left at the curb along with the rest of the day's trash. It was so disturbing to me that, in an instant, a person's presence on the planet can be completely erased. And it all boiled down to those stupid boxes.
And what was really, really chilling was when I was going through her books, I found that this particular title was pulled out, almost as if she was in the midst of reading it. I believe it was supposed to be a crow flying above St. Paul's Chapel, but it kinda looks like a plane to me...

The image on that book cover is haunting. Sucks that you had to go through that. I hate the thought of anyone having to deal with my things when I'm gone.
