"The best things come to those who wait" is ****e. I went to the AHI benefit in '98, waited patiently for Stevie to mill though our tables, as we were told to, and watched as the dinner was crashed by fans without tickets who swarmed Stevie, got to meet her, got autographs, and watched Stevie leave early. I met Sharon at the airport afterward by chance and she told me I had to be more aggressive. That was the last time I sat and "waited".
I am upset that I missed the show and shed some tears over it. I friend who's seen Stevie's shows since the beginning of her career said it was the best show she ever saw. Al Ortiz was posting how thrilled he was to play the show and that the music was all so brilliant. Fans were all out of their minds with joy over it. I was happy for every one of them, until the actual time of the show when I was very sad about not being there. I was supposed to go to the NYC show, which would have been like this show, and I had to re-grieve that loss. So I did.
Now I am again thrilled for everyone that went. Though I still haven't been able to bring myself to watch the videos or see the photos. I will soon.
There's nothing wrong with being sad/angry for missing this. It was a chiffon head's dream come true. I'm sure many others feel the same way but won't commiserate for fear of criticism for being "selfish".
