I'm not overly thrilled with Dave Stewart's production. I feel like the vocals are too loud and so is the lead guitar and in a way where they stand out in their own space far too much, feeling distant from the rest of the band. My track list pretty much highlights the songs where that isn't the case. I also think the songs where Stevie wrote her own music end up being the strongest in all cases except Italian Summer. Italian Summer's production is yummy. I'm a sucker for strings.
Secret Love is a known quantity. It's a pop song. it's well produced, sounds like it should have been on TISL. It sound like nothing else on the album, which is a bummer.
Soldier's Angel I have the most to comment on. As much as I want to love Soldier's Angel, and I think as a poem, it's a beautiful piece with a great message, musically I think it sounds like a half-done demo, and the meter really should have been edited from the poem to fit more into song structure, rather than sounding forced into parts of the song. If I could get ahold of the raw tracks for this I'd show you how I'd love it
My top 5 in order are:
Secret Love
Italian Summer
Moonlight
Annabel Lee
For What It's Worth
Not a fan of:
Ghost are Gone
In Your Dreams
You May Be The One
