Yes, the lyrics are corny, but for some reason I get the feeling that this song was written with tongue firmly planted in cheek. I'm guessing it was supposed to be in the vein of those corny old AM radio country songs, which helps to explain the little slide guitar interlude. I just hope Stevie's version doesn't become too serious.

Ok, now that you mention it - it does sound like the old cheesy country songs that I love and grew up listening to. But, I never deemed Dave & Stevie to be another Porter & Dolly or Conway & Loretta and God knows they sure aren't George & Tammy. The thing about those novelty songs - they were usually upbeat and you got that it was a joke. This is not. And, it's not funny either. Eh. Reminds me of Lindsey's story of when they were trying to get back on track after BN tanked and the label guys wanted them to do stuff like Jim Stafford's "Spiders and Snakes" (Loretta & Conway) and join the steak house circuit...
Oh well, I'm sure I'll be singing along to this when it comes out regardless.
