This was Africa, but yes, starting with China, most of Asia is a cesspool of animal brutality. Certainly the bits that I've been to
China, where it's state policy to deal with stray dogs by beating them to death in the street with sticks, and if your family pet gets mistaken for a stray, well, hey-ho, whatcha gonna do about it, citizen? This rhino horn problem has a lot to do with China as well, and the tiger products, the bear bile etc etc etc. A disgrace to humanity.
