I don't want to stray too far off topic, but what is the big deal with the Mayan calendar? Yes, they were supposedly very advanced for their time, but guess what? They dead. For a long time... No, Mayans still live, as a people, not as a culture. They never went away. You can thank the Spanish for conquering the area (like they did further south with the Incas, as well)...and converting the Mayans to Catholocism and therefore ending their culture. I think the Mayans just felt they had a whole lotta time to come out with their next calendar ("ok, we have a while til we need to update this thing"), meanwhile, the Spanish floated into town.
