Is someone re-writing history here?

From what I recall Bob, was that you quit FM and they hired Lindsey (&Stevie) to replace you.
In one of Bob's Q&A's he mentions that the remaining band members were worried that they might not survive and that he was asked back into the fold even once Stevie and Lindsey were hired. Mick obviously would not mention something like this in his book--but I can imagine a moment's panic and perhaps a "last chance, Bob" kind of offer were not out of the realm of possibility. As enthusiastic as the the core trio were about Lindsey's guitar playing, they were also aware that their stateside reputation was almost entirely based on the presence of Bob Welch. I'm sure his leaving set them in panic mode--at least until those first rehearsals with the Rumours-era lineup made clear there was magic.

For what it's worth, Bob also admitted in one of his Q&As that when Lindsey quit FM after Tango, he asked them if he could take Lindsey's place, but they declined the offer.
