Anyone care to speculate what she meant? Despite Stevie’s denial, a secret love affair gone bad? Drugs? An argument over the making of the album? Or Stevie putting an overdramatic spin on things?

No evidence for this, but if someone put a gun to my head and said I had no choice but to take my best guess, I would say that he probably found out his wife was pregnant. I would imagine Stevie at that point would be like, "YEAH okay have a nice DAY! I hope it's a beautiful CHILD! Hey do you have a pen? Thanks. Gotta go, bye."
That seems like "the most-likely scenario" to me.
