YEP, that's apparently one answer.
(It turns out, though, that Carroll originally intended there to be NO answer. I just did a little digging on the net; and several different sites said that that was the joke - some riddles DON'T have an answer. But people bugged Carroll so much about it that he eventually wrote in an introduction to a later edition, "Because it can produce a few notes, though… they are very flat; and it is nevar put with the wrong end in front!"
(Look at the spelling of "nevar!"
) Like mentioned above, another answer that has been proposed is,
"Because Poe wrote on both."
The answer I had come up with is,
"Because both can fly!"
