A popularity contest wouldn't be good, but encouraging a culture of being pleasant with one another and acknowledging when someone makes us laugh or brightens up our day with their posts certainly would be.
There was a "Say something nice about another Ledgie" thread posted here in that spirit a few months ago that I really liked
