The only time I have ever ridden a horse I was given a mare that was obviously in season. A stallion in the group spent the whole time trying to get to her (and she to him) which was not much fun (and not the sort of horse you give a first-time rider). I had to fight with her the whole way, they had to keep a horse between them the whole time, and the rider of the stallion had to fight with him. Nearly lost the battle too!!! I was half expecting to be crushed by a sex-crazed stallion!
