I've read some reports that are saying the recent breakup with his girlfriend led him toward relapse and OD. I have a feeling it was the other way around. My guess is that he relapsed (as a result of the accident and probably use of pain meds?) and she left because of that.
This really illustrates how quickly one can lose it all, in spite of long term recovery. Nine years of sobriety and dead of an overdose. Addiction is so awful.
My heart goes out to those who knew and loved him.
