Default Myopia to the max

Latter day aficionados ought to get their heads out of the baby boomer Rumours area and pick up on the real history of the Mac. It didn't begin in 1975 or 1977 for that matter, and Lindsey & Stevie would most likely never have progressed past little known folk pop ditties in west coast lounges if it hadn't been for three key players: Peter Green, Bob Welch and Mick Fleetwood. All this hullabaloo about the 3rd wave of FM is sadly overblown. The group had higher charting hits in the UK in their brief but glorious blues rock years (all of three) than they had stateside or elsewhere in over 30.

If the HOF really wanted to do justice towards finding and enshrining Fleetwood Mac's place in the sun, at a minimum they should have made it a point to cover the span of the band's amazing history, their truest hallmark of all, in the song representation. As it was, the proceeding was largely framed in the all too myopic view of the BN years, yet they were inducting a musical entity that owed its very existence to Bluesbreakers' alumni. For anyone who has followed the band from its seminal years, that whole presentation came off more spurious than a two cent penny. [Fitting in many ways for HOF let me add]

As proffered, if the hotshots involved had bothered to put but a modicum of thought into the proceedings, they could and should have chosen representative tracks to honor the band's entire body of work. I can think of no better than Black Magic Woman (Green) or Oh Well (Green) from the 1st wave, Hypnotized (Welch) from the 2nd, and - perhaps fittingly - The Chain from the 3rd (as already suggested). If anyone of the Rhiannon obsessed honestly haven't heard of these, go look them up. You're in for a treat.

Oh but wait, they thumbed Bob Welch right and fine prior to the grand anointing, the very guy that led the Mac to California to begin with, kept the band going when the others wanted to pack it in, and paved the way for all that followed. Hypnotized? Ah silly me, what WAS I thinking?

Uh ... carry on with all the myopic hair-splitting gang, please.
