You know, I feel the exact same thing as you do only it's with "Gold Dust Woman" - I think the album version isn't nearly as good as all the awesome old live versions where Stevie's wailing all over the place and you can feel the intensity of the song.
Every time I hear it on Classic Vinyl (the station I'm always listening to), I just think, "You know, they should really go deep into their vaults and snatch up some live GDWs from '77!"
