By your standards Fleetwood Mac can never become relevant again. Even if they released the best album ever they are never going to compete with Britney Spears at this stage in their career. But why that matters to you I have no clue, because if it sounds good and you enjoy it, I don't know why you care so much if your friends have heard it or if it's played in the clubs or shooting up the chart. Obviously that means a lot to you for some crazy reason. And if that's the case, just move on. Why don't you just go and listen to Lady GaGa and post on her messageboard? Maybe in a few years when the next big thing comes along you can stop listening to her too and move on to another new trend instead since that's what's important to you, how music or bands are seen rather than what it means to you personally.
In my opinion I think you are confusing commercial success and what your peers like with being relevant (or your definition is different to most people here, which obviously irks you).
Most people see it in terms of a certain integrity that doesn't bow to musical trends rather influences the music of today (I could namecheck some much-talked-about bands for you influenced by Fleetwood Mac but obviously you don't listen to music unless it's sold a million).
As for cultural impact, well actually it isn't always seen at the time, sometimes it's a long time after, which is what you don't get. Big time.
