I'd also like to know why the Say You Will cover was patterned after Double Suicide.
The struggle against social obligation and personal desire might have a parallel between Say You Will's mix of commercial appeal (title track, SYHA, etc.) and creative expression.
I kept hoping they would mention why they chose that cover during Destiny Rules, but they didn't. I will say that the way they basically had to audition for a recording contract at that stage in their careers reminded me of the rich man in the movie, who cruelly flaunted his ability to pay the heroine's way out of indentured servitude (prostitution), when the man who loved her was too poor to do so.
Also, the movie wants to present itself as not only a play, but as kabuki theater. This dramatic artifice, could be a reflection on FM, it's soap opera history and the unreal quality of what they present to us. I did think about the movie when I heard the Show You How lyrics, (when the play is over and the cast scrapes and bows, when the lights go out, what's it all about, etc.). Also, more recently, since the characters in the play are veiled in black, I thought of it for "black angel can't stand to be alone."
Speaking of that, I could also make a shipper's comparison between FM and the movie's doomed Romeo and Juliet-type love.
Anyway, I'd love to hear why FM chose that cover.
