I think there is a fine balance between sounding raw and sounding worn. And sometimes vocalists sound anguished and pained, not necessarily because they feel that way, but because that's the only way they can squeeze out certain notes. And we all know Stevie also does her fair share of screaming when she has to hit the note. But with Lindsey it just seems like he is either whispering or bellowing- no longer able or willing to sing a song in its original key, melody or cadence.
And as for "Dreams," it is not exactly the kind of song one would/should belt out. It has and always will be one of those chill songs that kind of soothes you like a warm towel. But you have to admit that she does kind of lose her sh** at the end of "Silver Springs;" that's pretty much sung straight from the gut, IMHO.
