I agree. And what he did to them is not ever to compare with how he approached Johnny Cash. Even the Neil Diamond-thing, that indeed has a lot in common - soundwise - with Johnny Cash's comeback, was way different too. He simply said to Neil: this song has potential and this one stinks: go back and write better stuff, this isn't good enough. I go and record with you if you got better material. That was his main role in addition of building the sound.
Now THAT is a nice point of view. Can you see that happening with Buckingham and Nicks?
