Anyway, this is how fandom is no.matter.what. I'm part of quite a few fandoms, and this one is no different in the So-and-So is better than What's-Their-Face department. You should have seen some of the hate spewed on the American Idols boards back in the day.

People always want THEIR idol to be the biggest/bestest/most greatest in the world. It's competition of the fandom.
