Fleetwood Mac has become a shorthand reference for bad things that I don't really think are really heavily associated with the band itself or its music. It's like a little blurb I just posted in MacNuggets about reaching the "Fleetwood Mac threshold" in music where you've been in a band so long all you can do is write about being in a band. Well . . . very few of FM's songs have to do with being in a band. FM is just an easy target for any musical malaise, because so many people know the name, without being familiar with their content, beyond Rumours and Little Lies.

It's like Ozzie and Harriet. They have become an abbreviation for a type of wholesome family sitcom that the show never actually was. Ozzie was a clever, quirky individual with a devilish sense of humor, not Ward Cleaver or Jim Anderson at all. But more people talk about what the show was than have actually seen the show. Same with FM these days.
