I doubt if Christine would want to commit to a whole album. I can't imagine her giving up her life in Kent for a year in L.A.
I think the Earthquakes were only one of the reasons she left to come home. Her marriage had just broken up, she was fed up with the rock 'n roll lifestyle and I think she wanted to spend some more time with her brother.
She's pretty much retired now. If the collective will exists for the Rumours lineup to make some more music together then they will find a way. I just don't believe that the will exists.
So if Stevie needs a female friend along to make the tour happen then it looks like Sheryl Crow is it. I'm not sure there'll be room onstage though. 5 band members, 2 backing singers, 3 extra musicians, 1 extra percussionist
