Not funny - just honest. Although I liked the concept of Buckingham acoustic, the execution ended up disappointing and melodically unmemorable half of the time. I'll air the (unpopular?) opinion that Lindsey's golden ear for production has been somewhat tarnished for a while now. The echo effect combined with the vocal layering just didn't create a pleasing sonic space IMO. However, I give him major props for holding the artistic trump card of FM, as you said, and releasing the album he wanted without endless studio tinkering or concessions made to the record label. That, and the songs I had sonic qualms with cleaned up nicely onstage.

I'd argue UTS wasn't his best work and that some of the reviews I read seemed more in the vein of giving an oft-neglected, underrated visionary his due after all these years. Ditto for many reviews of Stevie's shows, although the praise certainly reads more forced in her case.

Love the up to date music reference btw.
It was clear to me what he meant - a handful of people were hailing UTS as a masterwork like another masterwork in LOTC. With all due respect to Mr. Strand's youthful countenance, having had a couple siblings in his age orbit who were reasonably sophisticated etc. makes me feel the release date of Joni's LP is pretty irrelevant in the comparison.
