3. The thing about this -- the Mirage tour was the last time they played without a backing band (except for an occasional acoustic guitar). I saw them then, and the show was amazingly good --a big full sound. While they didn't attempt recreate sound-for-sound the studio versions of songs, they reinterpreted them for a live setting with minimal instrumentation. I was always excited to see how they would achieve this.
It certainly seems to be the unfortunate trend. The roll has been taking out of rock. Plus you have a new generation of fans that expect performances to be a carbon copy of the record.
With regard to the bootlegs -- I'll take the sometimes thin, scrappy, rough and out-of-tune performances from 1975-1982, over any shows they did since then.[/QUOTE]
