I always wanted to ask Iovine what he really thought about his work on that album. I didn't just want the politically correct answer; I wanted to really know what he thought of the job he did on production (& did that include much orchestration?). Bella Donna (other than from the lead gal, of course, in her vocals & her songwriting). To me, the rest of it sounds like what wolf said about
Gaucho in another thread.
I do admire how Iovine kept the lead vox front & center on virtually every track; there's no gauzy, dizzy vocal treatment that never finds a prominent center, like what mars
The Other Side of the Mirror, where Stevie sometimes sounds like fourteen different women (& a few men) all harmonizing asynchronously. You get aural vertigo.
