Amazingly, Buckingham and Nicks never let their personal life affect the music they were making; if anything, their conflicts enhanced their creative output. Caillat recalled one day when “Lindsey and Stevie were sitting on two stools, singing into one mic doing the backgrounds to ‘You Make Loving Fun’—a pretty ironic song for them to be harmonizing on. Anyway, if Lindsey made a mistake Stevie would jumped down his throat: ‘**** you, you bastard!’ And then Lindsey would yell: ‘You can’t sing it any better, you ****ing whore!’ This would go on all day. The funny thing was, each time they did this, they sang better and better. I don’t know if it was to try to please the other person or trying to one-up each other, but in-between all the snapping we got these two heavenly voices on tape. And a lot of bickering and swearing.”
