One thing that surprised me when I read the Warren Zevon book is that Eddie Ponder said that Lindsey was still traveling with Zevon (on the Everly tour) and making (what Ponder thought was) good money when Lindsey got the offer from Mick.
Eddie Ponder says that he and Lindsey were walking down the street to get a Foster's drink when Lindsey said he got a call from Fleetwood Mac and was thinking about joining the band. Eddie was shocked, cursed and asked Lindsey if he was crazy. He told Lindsey he had a great life, was making $450 a week and got to hang out with celebrities. Why, oh why would he want to join Fleetwood Mac! I was not previously aware that Lindsey's work on the road had continued right up to the time he got Fleetwood Mac's phone call.
I thought they were flat broke too. So, I'm not sure whom to believe on that. Eddie or Stevie? I will say that when Stevie was in Europe a couple of years ago and said she moved out of the apartment with Lindsey and then had to swallow her pride and ask to come back, I was shocked. She had always maintained that she paid the rent on that apartment. So, she leaves and Lindsey keeps up the apartment and she is the one who ends up homeless? It tells me that Lindsey
did have an income, independent of Stevie's waitressing and housecleaning. He and Richard couldn't have been just bouncing the rent check for months on end.
