Whether or not we agree about the rightness or wrongness of the tape being leaked, I happen to believe that ASIDE from whatever actions a court might take, Alec himself, without the public humiliation might have continued to treat Ireland in the same over the top manner. THAT is what I think the public airing accomplished that a mere Court could not. I think this brings home for him in a very real way just how asshole-ish he was. At least in this instance.
