I beg to differ: the tunes To Love Somebody (covered by the great Janis Joplin), Holiday, I started a Joke, Massachusetts, Ive gotta get a message to you, I cant see nobody are at least as good as any of the early Beatles tunes. And Lonely Days was every bit as envelope pushing as anything from Sgt Pepper...and thats just from their EARLY stuff! Im not even counting their Disco years which they dominated quite handily. They even had further success with duets and writing tunes that other people covered. You obviously dont know anything about the BEE GEES or you wouldnt have said what you did.

Not only that, but Paul was only one HALF of a songwriting team. John Lennon had much pithier lyrics IMO. Paul's stuff was pretty smarmy much of the time whereas John was pointed, and intelligent and had something to SAY. I think if anything, Paul's melodies were nicer than Johns, but as for being a lyricist, I think he took a back seat to John by FAR.

Barry was the linchpin in the BEE GEES. Every song was a collaboration between the various brothers, but Barry was in every song. I'd say he more than holds his own against Paul.
