Changing keys isn't as easy as it sounds (no pun intended). Changing keys to odd intervals can make the song sound completely different, even if it's just a half step.

Thanks for the answers, everyone. I have only the SLIGHTEST bit of basic "textbook" musical knowledge. I could never tell you what key a song is in, or in what range someone sings. Much to my chagrin.

I guess the changes I hear are, like Little Nicki said, in the lowering of the melody as opposed to the key.

I can understand wanting her to sing different songs even if she has to rework them... it would be fun to hear some of the songs in different arrangements... but the "even if she butchers them" line of thought surprises me.
I mean, is it really better to hear something you've never heard live before, even if it sounds God awful? I just can't imagine that being satisfying in any way.

"Woo-hoo!!! She sang 'Julia'!!! It sounded like Roseanne Barr taking a hard ****, but at least she sang it!!! I'm gonna buy a ticket to tomorrow night's show, too!"
