Kristin, literally it means "cow meat." To make it grammatically correct, it would be written "carne de vaca," which literally translates to "meat of cow," or, a little less literally, "cow meat." For a more accurate translation, the English term would be "beef."
And though it is spelled the same way, I did not intend it to be Spanish. It is actually Portuguese. So how can you tell? You can't by reading it, but if you heard it, you'd pick up the difference.
